About the Health Care Quality M.S.N. Program

As more information about the structure, process, and outcomes of health care have emerged and the science of quality is expanding, quality improvement has recently emerged as a distinct area of expertise. GW’s School of Nursing, in partnership with the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), developed the M.S.N. in Health Care Quality program to meet the growing need for quality and patient safety specialists who can grow and sustain a culture of continuous improvement. Graduates will be prepared for quality and patient safety leadership, management, and research positions within health care organizations or policy agencies, and be able to:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate quality and patient safety improvement initiatives
- Learn strategies to lead organizational change toward a quality-focused culture
- Translate national quality expectations into daily operations
- Apply processes and tools to measure, analyze, and interpret quality improvement data
- Design and implement information technology systems to support quality assurance
- Conduct research to drive clinical and operational decision-making
The program’s versatile distance-based format allows professional nurses to advance their education while working full-time, but also provides students with a rigorous curriculum and access to the resources and experts at GW. Selected on-campus experiences invite students to campus to interact with faculty and other students.
